Port Operations, Hinterland Cargo Distribution and Logistic Centres
The fast growing international and intra-EU trade volume requires substantial capacity increases within the ports and of the hinterland modes. Besides investments also intelligent operational structures and appropriate hinterland transport chains may contribute to increasing demand of transport services.

Five workshops and one best practice tour cover the great variety of questions and challenges of this topic.

Starting with modern port operations a focus is on efficient container handling. Standardised electronic data information (EDI) systems across Europe are a further target of a common European transport policy and will be discussed in a workshop and analysed two studies. Finally, the analysis of appropriate hinterland connections will be discussed.

The expected results are an increase of know-how among partners and EU-wide to increase efficiency of operations within the port and to promote the use of environmentally friendly hinterland connections.
