The workshop "New EU Port and Customs Policy, Impact on Ports: What Will the Future Bring for the Trade with non-EU Countries" hosted by the Freeport of Riga Authority takes place in Riga, 29-30 November within the framework of European Union's PORT-NET project.

The main task for the workshop is to discuss the best practises for customs issues and exchange experiences.


Speakers include port development professionals from state institutions and private sector as Mr.Willy Winkelmans (University of Antwerp), Mr.Andris Maldups (Ministry of Transport), Mr.Normunds Krumins (Central Euro Asia Gateway), Mr.Michael Stange (BWA, Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg), Mr.Richard Morton (Haven Gateway, the UK), Mr.Ivan Bogdanov (TFS Trans Ltd.), Mr.Miguel Llop (Valencia Port Foundation). The workshop is taking place at the
Reval Hotel Latvia and the Freeport of Riga Authority premises.

Port-Net is the EU INTERREG IIIC project, the main objective of which is achieving a better understanding of the factors describing a suitable organisation, appropriate operational structures and capacities and an optimal regional integration of ports.
Port-Net is a three-year project (2005-2007), with the total budget of 1.7MLN Euro and which is partly being financed from the common EU budget.


Alongside the Freeport of Riga Authority the participants of the project are Port of Hamburg as the leading partner, Port Authorities of Antwerp, Tallinn and Klaipeda, Tendring Council (Haven Gateway) from UK and other, in total, 20 organisations relating to port operations and their by-lying territory development from 12 EU states and Russia.
